Assistant Director

East Side Heart & Home Family Center is seeking a full-time Assistant Director. The agency offers programs for youth, women, families, and seniors. This position will work closely with the Executive Director to further the agency’s mission: Creating connections and offering opportunities to effect change in East St. Louis.

A successful candidate will have previous experience working alongside low-income families, be culturally responsive, have a positive attitude, and possess excellent critical thinking and communication skills.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work directly with families in the Housing Program.
  • Build relationships with existing and new program participants, staff, board members, volunteers, and donors.
  • Work with staff to determine agency needs. Develop and implement strategies for obtaining needed resources for those needs.
  • Cultivate new donors and maintain those relationships to grow funds, support programs, and build capacity for the agency.
  • Collaborate with other staff to respond to phone calls and individuals at the door, receive and organize donations, and connect individuals and families with support services as appropriate.
  • Actively participate in scheduled staff meetings and provide reports at quarterly board meetings.
  • Plan, organize, and execute all resource development activities, including special events, online or mail campaigns, and face-to-face solicitation.
  • Strengthen existing and develop new community partnerships by representing the agency at outside events and meetings.
  • Assist the Executive Director with administrative tasks in the Family Program and Housing Program.

Requirements Include

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with diverse populations of varying ages, races, and socio-economic status
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a variety of projects and programs
  • Ability to work independently as a motivated self-starter
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
