Friday Club welcomed a group of therapy dogs this week for a morning built around touch therapy.
The morning started with a coloring activity that let the kids learn about different dog breeds while putting their own artistic spin on things. Our volunteers then introduced the dogs, who came in from a local touch therapy dog program. The kids spent the next part of the morning getting to engage with the dogs, learning what it means for a dog to be trained specifically for comfort and connection.
One of the volunteers read us a story they had written themselves, and the kids enjoyed every page, especially with a dog or two settled right beside them as the story went on. After the reading, it was the kids’ turn. Friday Club members took turns reading out loud to the dogs themselves.
